Legs

The painting New Legs is a painting of someone building their own legs out of their digested material. So it is kind of grotesque, I guess! But I felt that they were very much like an artist, themselves. But it was more like they were building their legs; it felt like a necessity. That was a question that I was thinking about with these self eaters [Self Eaters series]: they seem to be so involved in their own process, they are always having a hand in their own consumption and production – and also production of their image – that I wondered if they were very conscious of it at all, or if what they were to make would be considered art, or just a necessity.
